I'll be honest. Getting this newsletter out once a week is new for me… and I haven't quite got the hang of it yet - as you can tell. The ADHD is strong in me, and well, we got Epic. Which meant we had to unload it from the footpath (it doesn't fit through the shop's front door), which meant we needed someplace to put all the bins we were filling with hundreds and hundreds of lush, sheepy, pillowy skeins - ASAP, which meant what newsletter? So I leaned in to the distraction of our disheveled storage/office space. This made Sarah very happy as she spends most of her day in this cluttered space.
I got busy “making room”, while Sarah and her always willing to get stuck in husband, unburdened the Ponsonby scooter people from the giant woolobstacle. In the end, the storage/office space got decluttered, wiped down, vacuumed, organised, and then crammed full of bins - to the ceiling. All in all, one of those productive days that challenge you in the moment but feel so rewarding when you finally sit down to that 'hour later than it should be cup of tea.
So if you participated in the pre-order of Epic (so kind, thank you), the first lot is being posted Monday, with more to follow everyday. We appreciate your patience as it's a supply chain of events we don't have too much control over, but the end result is one of New Zealand's most special yarns on your needles or hooks! Please share your finished projects with us at info@prosperyarn.com 💌
Now onto the reason you're here: Yarn talk!
Even though we're wool lovers, the days getting just a little bit longer, and the temperature rising just a little still brings on that inner Summertime anticipation smile. Never fear, we've got weeks and weeks of cosy moments knitting, crocheting and wearing our makes before the height of Summer hits (and even then we've got ways of still making all through the heat - including a possible makers trip to cooler weather to Southern elevations if you're keen?)
We wanted to share with you the fun we've been having in sock club, tease you with an intriguing Advent proposal, show you a cool customer make, explain what the heck an MKAL is and how we're participating, and some studio news.

This is the 16th annual Mystery Knit-A-Long by designer Stephen West. Previous MKAL's have yielded the Doddler (pictured above), and Go Go Dynamo. This mystery KAL releases the pattern over a month long period, with a clue emailed to you each week. Stephen knits the clue with you through videos he releases each week. And to make things even more fun, and helpful, we host a MKAL group in our studio on Ponsonby Road every Saturday Morning from 11am. His designs always guarantee you will learn something new, and have a lot of fun doing it. Check out our MKAL yarn kits based on Stephen's recommendations!

Tips and tricks for making Spring clothing knits… choose your type: cardigans are an obvious choice, as are vests, or loose gauge pullovers. Which brings us to our next tip - look for a loose gauge, big needles + thin yarn, or a lace pattern (like the Corran Cardigan) to take advantage of layering. And our final tip is yarn choice, go for yarns with silk or linen in them, like Legend, Legend DK, or laceweight yarns like Pip & Mint.
Please get in touch if you'd like us to recommend yarns and quantities for any project - then you just have to choose the colour! Also we would love some crochet recommendations.

Our No Place Like Home sock club has been so fun - and this month's yarn is the mostdistinct yet! We also include suggested sock patterns, and the occasional extra prezzie. It's a special treat to get yarn in the post once a month. You should join in on the fun - especially with Socktober fast approaching!

Advent prep is in full swing and the studio is humming. It's so exciting seeing it come together and we cant wait to share it with you - but we do want it to be a surprise! If you are planning to pop into the studio over the coming weeks and don't want any spoilers, give us a heads up by texting, calling, or emailing. That way we can make sure to keep the cat (or sheep) in the bag.
At the opposite end of the spectrum; I hate surprises. If you're the same, I'd like to make you an offer. If you promise not to publish or share them, I can send you partial or full set photos of this year's Advent so you can decide if it's for you! So come by the studio or just email.

Making for loved ones is a reward all of its own. Even more so if they get the chance to help pick the yarn and the project. This shawl was made for a very knit worthy man. He wanted something warm with earthy colours that were grounding. While a sweater or scarf may have been the traditional choice, after trying on this shawl he was won over. It has been worn on South Island road trips, evening dishes duty and everything in between. Made in buttery soft Beaut, this Plumpy shawl is a timeless piece. And I don't know who feels warmer thinking about it, the wearer or the maker.

To make way for some beautiful warmer weather yarns, we will be saying goodbye to our Keen As base. All our remaining skeins are listed, so if you have been eyeing it up, now's your chance to get in quick! For those who love the worsted gauge, our beautiful local yarn Epic will be the perfect substitute. While if it's the mix of plant and wool fibre that you are after, we will have you sorted with some new arrivals in the Summer months!
