Welcome back to There’s No Place Like Home! As winter finally gives way to the warmer months, we saw an opportunity to celebrate the last of our winter bush walks for the year.
Our yarn this month is a beautiful hand painted mix of greens and browns, darks and lights, flecked with some moody grunge. Imagine the sound of gravel crunching under tramping boots.. passing between giant Kāuri trees, beside a meandering stream.. enveloped by the bush. Thinking of you, Waitākere Ranges!
Leaning into the idea of the tramping boots, we’ve gone with a sturdy, machine washable New Zealand Merino/Nylon blend. This yarn provides a hardy base that still has all the softness we love in merino.
And as we’re writing a love letter to the last of the winter walks, we’re knitting ours with Summer Lee’s Mermaid Avenue Socks. The texture of these socks is incredible, and plays so beautifully with the colourway.
Getting into nature is something we’re so lucky to be able to easily do in Aotearoa, and we never miss the chance to get amongst it. If you’re in Tāmaki Mākaurau, you can find some amazing tracks at all difficulties here. Otherwise our brilliant Department of Conservation has some fantastic resources for walks all up and down the motu .
We’re obsessed with this yarn, hope you love it as much as we do!
Now roll on spring
