Broken rib hat Knitting pattern - Purl foundry
Get creative with your yarn stash and knit up a cozy, versatile beanie with the Broken Rib beanie pattern. With instructions for four different yarn weights and three head sizes for each weight, this pattern is perfect for any knitter looking to use up their leftover yarn. The broken rib stitch creates a classic, ribbed look, and the fold-up brim can be worn two ways for added slouch or a more fitted look.
This is a printed pattern. Beautifully printed and folded into A DLE envelope brochure size, this will be posted to you.
Designed to be worn with up to 5cm of negative ease, this relaxed-fit beanie is slightly slouchy, with a length 2.5cm longer than your natural head height. However, you can easily adjust the length for a more fitted crown if you prefer. This is your hat, after all! Order your Broken Rib Hat pattern today and start knitting your perfect beanie.

For the samples I used:
- The blue hat is in The Grumpy Merino 8ply yarn in Mr Dutton colour. This traceable yarn is squishy soft and grown/made in NZ. You'll need 2 (2, 3) balls.
- The green hat is in Fiddlesticks Peppin 10 in colour 1030. It's Australian merino and also squishy soft. You'll need 2 (3, 4) balls.
- The grey hat is in Quince & Co Chickadee in Iceland colour. You'll need 2 skeins for all sizes.
Proper yarns we recommend: ProsperSock or PropserDK but you could really use any weight of our yarn for this pattern
Our colours that would best match the beanies in the photos are Ent, Eos and sandcastle
We try our best to make our photos as accurate as possible but every screen displays colour slightly differently, so we cannot guarantee complete accuracy. Hand-dyed yarns vary from one batch to the next so there will always be some variation between the photo and each individual skein.
Part of the hand dyed allure is each skein's individuality. This gives final objects depth and nuance. With this in mind we recommend alternating skeins (every other row in flat knitting and every row in circular knitting) on larger projects creating a more cohesive blend.
