Go Go Dynamo Stephen West MKAL Yarn sets
Yarn Sets to knit a Mystery Knit A-Long for Westknit's MKAL 24: Go Go Dynamo (pattern is sold separately). The annual Westknit's MKAL is wildly popular because Stephen knits with you through each clue via his You Tube channel. You are sure to learn new techniques and receive lots of inspiration from all the creative shawls knit by thousands of MKAL participants from all over the world.
This Mystery Shawl design is a complete surprise, but there's no mystery to the perfect yarns. We've got you covered. Just choose your favourite set, and your favourite 4ply base of Beaut or Sweet As (yep - it's brand new and drop dead gorgeous). We also have a very limited luxury listing here if you're a Legend lover (silk/yak/merino).
It all kicks off with the first clue on 3 October so order now if you want to start on the day. We will dye and ship your set with in our usual 3-5 day turnaround. And, remember, you can start the MKAL anytime after its release date, it's all about fun.
This year's theme has the designer Stephen West framed with crisp geometric shapes, in clear bright colours - is this a hint for the shawl to come? Only one way to find out!
Each Set Includes:
2MC + 2CC skeins of Beaut 100% SW Merino Single (100g/366 meters)
or 2MC + 2CC skeins of Sweet As 60/20/20% SW Meirno/Superfine Alpaca/Nylon (100g/400meters) Sweet As is a brand new base not yet sold anywhere else on the site!
We are including a mohair dare option with our kits this year: choose a hue match to your MC or a contrast to your MC. There's no wrong answer here - it's West Knits! We've posted a video on social media that revelas the mohair colours - or it can be a mystery if you prefer.
Yarn Advice from Stephen:
Solid, semi-solid, and speckled fingering weight yarns are all great options for this year’s shawl. If you want to use a variegated yarn or a very splashy speckled yarn, use that as the CC combined with a more solid and contrasting MC. Both colours will be used equally throughout the fabric. You will get a good idea of the MC/CC relationship during Clue 1.
Think about the MC as the framing colour. It doesn’t really matter which colour is the MC or CC, but if you have a really bold colour pop or a very splashy speckled yarn, then use it for the CC.
COLOURWAYS ARE LISTED as our recommendation of MC/CC only to help in deciding your mohair dare. If you choose the mohair dare (1 x 50g Mint), it will either match as closely as possible to your MC or it will contrast with it, depending on your choice. We'd love to surprise you with your mohair dare - but message us if you'd like to know the colourways.
We try our best to make our photos as accurate as possible but every screen displays colour slightly differently, so we cannot guarantee complete accuracy. Hand-dyed yarns vary from one batch to the next so there will always be some variation between the photo and each individual skein.
Part of the hand dyed allure is each skein's individuality. This gives final objects depth and nuance. With this in mind we recommend alternating skeins (every other row in flat knitting and every row in circular knitting) on larger projects creating a more cohesive blend.
